Check out this sweet television report of Felecia Gaston's installation of historical banners around Marin City honoring the workers of the Sausalito Shipyards of the 1940s. These workers arrived from the south to gain well-paying jobs building ships for the war effort and attempt to escape the Jim Crow laws that were believed to only be in the south.

Come to the Table Explicit Bias & Internalized Racism: Uncovering, Discovering, Discarding
The community is invited to experience honest and open conversations on the subject of our internalized racism. Living in Marin, we like to think that racism doesn't exist, especially in our own hearts and minds, but the reality is, it does. Whether we are liberal or conservative; democrat or republican; rich or poor; black or white; each of us has some level of internal racial bias we carry around with us. Acknowledging these biases isn't meant to create guilt in any way, it's meant to be transparent to ourselves, so that we can create real change in our world.
Forum speakers will look both inward and outward to identify underlying racism and other "isms" in ALL of us.

“So given that we do have a $6 million gap in our budget, we need to be strategic in how we fill that gap,” Schirmer said. “It is our recommendation to address that through a mix of reductions in our staffing and a reduction in our contracts with community-based organizations.”
He said between 20 and 30 county positions within the behavioral health division might have to be eliminated.
